Geneva (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister said that meetings such as the Global Refugee Forum should have practical results and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)not just suffice to declare positions.

Iran PressEurope:  Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Geneva, Switzerland on Tuesday evening heading a high-ranking delegation to attend the meeting of the Global Refugee Forum 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland, and to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of this meeting.

On the sidelines of the second Global Refugee Forum 2023 on Wednesday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian referred to the Israeli war crimes in Gaza and told reporters that the consequences of the genocide and war crimes of the Zionist regime will engage the region and the international community for years.

Amir-Abdollahian said: "We tried to highlight the global responsibility for dealing with refugees as well as the new wave of refugees in Gaza as a result of the Zionist regime's genocide and the US and Israel's resort to war."

He also pointed to the Afghan refugees in Iran and called on the UNCHR to pay attention to its duties, especially about the situation of 5 million Afghans living in Iran. 

The Iranian FM said that the Islamic Republic of Iran ranks first among the countries that accept refugees, highlighting the capacity and record of its hosting more than five million Afghan refugees for over four decades.
