Iran Press/ Iran News: Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani, in a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Ms. Velislava Petrova and her entourage, who are in Tehran for the 3rd meeting of the political consultative committee of the two sides, said that any problem or obstacle to the expansion of relations must be overcome through joint efforts by Iran and Bulgaria and, particularly, through follow-up efforts by the ministries of foreign affairs.
He also pointed to the traditional place of ties and the history of cooperation between Tehran and Sofia. The Iranian deputy foreign minister welcomed the investment of Bulgaria in Iran, commensurate with the current capacities and potentials, aimed at boosting the level of specialized cooperation. During the meeting, the two officials discussed regional and international developments and underlined the need for continued consultation and exchange of their experiences in various fields, including the problems and consequences of accepting migrants and refugees.
Ms. Velislava Petrova also referred to the 125-year history of diplomatic relations between Iran and Bulgaria. She said the membership of her country in the European Union would pave the way for increased cooperation with Iran in addition to bilateral ties.
The Bulgarian deputy foreign minister underlined that establishing a direct flight between Tehran and Sofia would facilitate popular and trade ties and overall relations between the two countries.
The Bulgarian deputy foreign minister said she was pleased with the trip to a country like Iran with a long history of civilization and culture. Ms. Velislava Petrova announced Bulgaria's readiness to hold the 20th joint economic commission of the two countries in Tehran in the second half of this year. She stressed the role of the spheres of culture and sports as well as the youth as the infrastructure of long-standing ties between Iran and Bulgaria, saying they can continue helping expand diplomatic relations and ties in other areas.
