Tehran (IP) – Iranian minister of roads and urban development expressed hope that the obstacles between Iran and Azerbaijan would be removed and cooperation would expand within the forthcoming meetings.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking at a meeting on Sunday with the First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev, who leads the State Commission for Economic, Trade to Cultural Cooperation of Azerbaijan and Iran, Rostam Qasemi said both sides were trying to reach an agreement on the construction of the Astarachai border bridge, of which 100 meters was remaining.

"The Rasht-Astara railway project is one of the important international corridors for Azerbaijan and Iran, so all efforts are to be made during Azerbaijani delegation's trip to Iran to conclude negotiations in this regard," Qasemi added.

He referred to the Nakhchivan-Mashhad passenger train as one of the topics discussed by the two sides, saying road, transport, and transit cooperation differed between the two countries.

"Also reaching an agreement on establishing the Persian Gulf Corridor to the Black Sea is very decisive and important for the two countries and will be among the topics to be discussed by the two countries," noted the Iranian minister.

"Maritime issues are also being negotiated between the two countries. Iran exports cars to Azerbaijan; last year it was 400 cars, and this year it has increased to more than 1400," he said, announcing Iran Khodro's readiness to produce 30% of this volume in Azerbaijan.

Qasemi pointed out that the two sides would also talk about Iran's automobile sector in Azerbaijan and joint ventures and exports to the neighboring countries.

"Certainly in the past, we had oil cooperation with Azerbaijan, which we will continue and in the energy field, we hope to be able to expand relations," he added.

He highlighted Iran's technologies in various industries, including automobiles. He announced Iran Khodro company's readiness to build different models of trucks and buses in Azerbaijan, expressing hope that an agreement would be reached in this regard.
