Kazan (IP) - Iran's president and the Prime Minister of India, in a meeting, while reviewing the solutions for expanding bilateral relations and events in the region, emphasised the necessity of peace in the region and avoiding the double standards of human rights.

Iran PressEurope: Masoud Pezeshkian, who is in Kazan, Russia to participate in the BRICS 2024 meeting, said on Tuesday evening during the meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi: "We believe that war hinders the development of countries. Therefore, we firmly seek to prevent the spread of tension and conflict in the region.

Expressing his interest in increasing the relations between Iran and India, the Iranian president further added: "The membership of Iran and India in BRICS is a suitable ground for further strengthening the relations and cooperation between the two countries and providing mutual benefits."

The President of Iran added: "The expansion of economic cooperation between the region's countries will improve the level of welfare and security of all."

Referring to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran by Israel, Pezeshkian expressed hope that the Western countries claiming human rights would help to stop Israel's crimes and the killing of innocent Palestinian people by stopping their support for the Israeli regime.

Referring to his previous trip to Iran and meeting with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the Indian Prime Minister described this trip as memorable and asked the Iranian President to convey his greetings to Ayatollah Khamenei.

Modi continued to consider the relations between the two countries as based on the long-standing relations between the two great civilizations and having many cultural commonalities and said: "From India's point of view, the development of Chabahar port is the biggest pillar of cooperation between the two sides, and we believe that the development of this port plays an important role in regulating the relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister of India also criticized the double standards of some countries regarding the killing of the people of Gaza and Lebanon and said that India is trying and consulting to establish peace and tranquility in the region.

The 16th BRICS summit kicked off on Wednesday in Kazan, Russia, with leaders from member countries, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, who represents the Islamic Republic in its first official participation in a BRICS summit.
