Tehran (IP) - Iran's Minister of Interior said the coming presidential election will be held safely as the necessary measures are taken and planned for the day.

Iran PressIran news: Ahmad Vahidi told Iran Press on Wednesday that with the coordination done between all those involved in the election process and with the enthusiastic turnout of the people at the polls, there would be no problem with the security of the election.

Considering the short time remained to the poling and the need to speed up the election process, the first stage, which was the registration of candidates, was done well and the next steps of the elections would be done according to the rules and the 50-day schedule planned, Vahidi said.

He explained that people who did not fulfill the requirements of the presidential candidacy were not registered; the next steps, including the verification of the qualification of the registered ones, would be up to the Guardian Council.

Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi along with his companions were on board on the way from Tabriz, northwestern Iran, to Tehran when their helicopter crashed on Sunday, May 19, and all were martyred.

The Ministry of Interior is tasked according to the constitution to prepare the grounds for elections for a new president to be elected in the country.

The Iranian snap election will be held on July 8.

He noted that in case the result of the election was not finalized in the first phase, the second phase of the election would be held a week later on July 15.
