Iran Press/ Africa: Activists in the capital in social media have suggested that heavy fighting is ongoing between the security forces of Intelligence organizations and the 'Rapid Support Forces' of the military police.
Sources with direct knowledge in the scene said that the fighting began this afternoon at Bahri’s Kafouri after soldiers belonging to the Sudanese army fired gunshots at a group of armed militia belonging to former president al-Bashir.
"The fighting began at Kafouri in Kober, Bahri this afternoon after soldiers of the Sudanese army fired gunshots at militia soldiers loyal to the former president Omar al-Bashir," the source said.
"Security forces blocked the road leading to the buildings," witnesses told Reuters.
The district is close to the capital’s airport.
Gunfire at 'Operations Authority' camp near 'Bahri Thermal Station' in Northern Khartoum also reported.
Sudan is undergoing a three-year political transition overseen by civilians and the military following the overthrow of long-time ruler Omar al-Bashir in April.
?In 2018, Sudan saw long-standing protests that culminated in a military coup on April 11, 2019, when then-President Omar Bashir was overthrown and detained after almost 30 years in power.
Following those events, the Sudanese Transitional Military Council held power until the creation of the Sovereign Council, which will be presided over by civilians and the military on a rotational basis.
