Tehran (IP) - The spokesman of the Guardian Council said the council voiced its support for the relevant executive agencies' confrontation with the rioters in the recent unrest in the country through the issuance of a statement.

Iran PressIran news: Unrest and brawls were instigated under the pretext of Mahsa Amini, 22, who died due to a sudden heart attack in a police center in Tehran on Tuesday, September 13, after being taken there for violation of dress codes along with some other women.

In its meeting on Wednesday, September 23, the Guardian Council, in a statement, announced its stance about the recent unrest: The Guardian Council thanks and supports all the security forces who patiently provide security. People and the country also have tried confronting the perpetrators of the riots, they consider it their duty and expect the judicial system to confront the main perpetrators and those responsible for killing and injuring innocent people and security guards, as well as those who destroy public property.

In his press brief on Saturday, Hadi Tahan-Nazif said in response to Iran Press regarding the mechanism of this council in supporting the police to deal with the main perpetrators of the recent riots stated: "The Guardian Council as one of the institutions of the country and protector of the constitution and Sharia is responsible for the implementation of the constitution."

Tahan-Nazif added: "Both legislation and its amendment are the parliament's responsibilities, and the Guardian Council's duty is to comment on the approvals."
