Iran Press/Iran News: The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, in an interview with the Italian news agency said that "Iran is enriching uranium close to military levels and is rapidly moving towards becoming a nuclear-armed state. The JCPOA is no longer relevant, and a new understanding is needed to take into account the realities of Iran's nuclear program."
On Monday, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, stated on the X platform that the Director General of a specialized organization should speak based on the facts and technical reports from the Agency's inspectors. Speculations based on hypothetical scenarios are outside the Director General's responsibilities and contradict the spirit of the Agency's statute.
Gharibabadi added that Iran's nuclear program aligns with technical needs and is fully conducted under the Agency's safeguards.
Iran's deputy foreign minister reiterated that the IAEA would observe countries' right to peacefully use nuclear energy including methods of enrichment based on relevant international documents and the Director General's politically motivated statements cannot ignore these realities.
Gharababadi stressed that Iran's enrichment program does not have military objectives and said: It should be noted that enrichment under the Agency's supervision does not deviate from peaceful objectives of Nuclear Energy and Grossi's remarks are a blatant infringement on the rights of countries to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Iran's deputy FM criticized Grossi for ignoring the root cause of the situation and the failure of Western signatories of JCPOA to fulfill their commitments and the unilateral withdrawal of the US from the Iran Nuclear Deal.
"Regardless of whether the JCPOA is relevant or not, it should be noted that constructive and fair dialogue based on mutual respect and balanced commitments, including sanctions relief, will be a sustainable solution," Iran Deputy FM concluded.
