Germany has requested that Afghanistan’s Ambassador in Berlin and Consul General in Bonn conclude their diplomatic duties. A diplomatic source, speaking anonymously with Amo TV, confirmed that German authorities asked Afghan diplomats to cease their activities. The source emphasized that Germany remains firm in refusing to accept any representatives appointed by the Taliban.

Iran Press/Europe:  The source added that while the Afghan embassy and consulate in Germany will no longer have diplomatic representation, consular services will continue. Technical staff in Berlin and Bonn have been permitted to continue their work solely for consular functions.

In August, Taliban authorities declared that only five Afghan diplomatic missions in Europe would be recognized: embassies in Spain, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic, as well as the Afghan consulate in Munich, Germany.

This move follows recent closures of Afghan embassies elsewhere in Europe. According to AFP, the Afghan embassy in London recently ceased operations after Taliban officials severed ties with the diplomatic staff appointed by the previous Afghan government and removed local British employees from their posts.

An AFP correspondent reported that a sign reading, "The Embassy of the Republic of Afghanistan is closed," had been placed on the embassy door in London, with no further responses from inside.

The Afghan Ambassador to the UK, Zalmai Rasoul, announced on social media in early September that the embassy would close on September 27, at the host country’s formal request. However, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) later stated that the closure decision was not made by the British government but by the Afghan government itself.

In an official statement, the FCDO reiterated its commitment to supporting the Afghan people through ongoing humanitarian aid, noting that the UK has not recognized the Taliban and maintains no formal diplomatic relations with them. It remains uncertain whether the FCDO will accept any future ambassadorial appointment from Afghanistan.
