UN (IP) - Amir Saeed Irvani, Iran's representative in the UN Security Council, which was held to review the situation in Afghanistan, announced that Iran hosts more than six million Afghan immigrants and said that the annual cost of this number of immigrants is more than 10 billion dollars.

Iran Press/America: In this meeting, which was held on Wednesday, he criticized that the international community was not paying attention to the urgent issue of Afghan refugees. He emphasized that the "irresponsible withdrawal" of the US from Afghanistan in 2021 has intensified the entry of illegal immigrants into Iran.

The representative of Iran at the United Nations said: "The international community should provide sufficient and stable support to countries like Iran and Pakistan, which are facing continuous challenges in Afghanistan."

In another part of his speech, he said that Iran is worried about the growing threat posed by ISIS in Khorasan and added that this group continues to carry out attacks and spread its propaganda. He called this process dangerous for the security of the region.

Iranian representative called the Taliban's restrictive actions against girls, women, and ethnic minorities, especially in access to education and the restrictions on political and social rights by the Taliban, as worrying, and asked the Taliban to cancel these restrictions.

While criticizing the Taliban's approach towards women, he called for the release of frozen Afghan assets by Western countries, especially the United States. He said that sanctions should not hinder efforts to revive Afghanistan's economy.

The United Nations Security Council meeting on Afghanistan was held in New York on Wednesday, September 18, and the head of UNAMA and representatives of the countries in the United Nations spoke in it. In this meeting, the majority of these countries condemned the Taliban's restrictions on women and the violation of human rights by this group.

They also expressed concern about the growth and increase of terrorist threats from Afghanistan to the entire region and neighboring countries and said that ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and other terrorist groups have bases in this country under the control of the Taliban. 204
