Iran Press/ Europe: "We have to work together again," German Foreign Minister told Deutschlandfunk radio network about the need for Joe Biden's government to work with the international community regarding the JCPOA, adding that there will definitely be a discussion in the United States about rejoining the agreement or whether there is possibly an extended one.
The German foreign minister added that if the United States and Europe pursue two completely different strategies, we will achieve nothing with Iran, both in terms of its nuclear capability and in terms of its regional role.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadehstated that there is no room for new negotiations regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by the next US Administration.
Khatibzadeh said what Iran has repeatedly stated is that the JCPOA has been the result of a long dialogue not between Iran and the United States but between Iran and the five members of the Security Council and Germany, which has become a binding international resolution by Resolution 2231. No one can talk about the JCPOA and open what has been signed, agreed upon, and sealed.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is an international agreement reached by Iran and the P5+1 (China France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) on July 14, 2015.
The nuclear deal was endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2231, adopted on July 20, 2015.
Iran’s compliance with the nuclear-related provisions of the JCPOA will be verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) according to certain requirements set forth in the agreement.
On May 8, 2018, US President Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the JCPOA and reinstate U.S. nuclear sanctions on the Iranian regime.
