Iran Press/ Middle East: Thousands of Syrians commemorated resistance Martyrs, Lieutenant-General Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandes at a gathering in Damascus.
At the ceremony, images of martyr Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis alongside the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and Hezbollah Secretary-General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah were visible. Demonstrators condemned the US terrorist act in the assassination of resistance leaders.
Condemning US terrorism, the speaker of the ceremony also emphasized that these hero martyrs will remain in the memory of the Syrian people and they never forget them; Adding that they will be always thankful to them for the combat against Takfiri terrorism and ISIS in particular, alongside the Syrian government and people.
Waving Iranian and Syrian flags, the demonstrators reiterated on their support of their president and the Syrian government, consolidate friendship between Iran and Syria, and vowed to continue the path of the resistance martyrs, including Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
The Commander of Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Lieutenant-General Qasem Soleimani and 8 of his companions including the second-in-command of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were assassinated by the US drones in Baghdad, Iraq's capital in the early hours of Friday morning 3 January 2020. Qasem Soleimani arrived in Iraq on Friday at the invitation of the country's government.
The US authorities announced that the air raid was conducted under Trump's direct order.
In the early hours of January 8, the IRGC's aerospace unit launched a successful attack against US forces in Ain al-Assad airbase in western Iraq and another in Erbil, in the north of the country.
The attack came in response to a US terrorist drone strike that martyred Soleimani.
