Nigeria (IP): Nigerians across the country continue to suffer from fuel shortage which hinders their routine activities, including commuting, public transportation, and trades.

Iran PressMiddle East: The fuel shortage crisis is worsening in the administrative capital of the country Abuja and Lagos, which is the center of commerce where long queues could be seen in a few gas stations which are at service, while most of the fuel stations remained closed.

Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) stated after meeting with the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, that the problem would be solved soon.

Though Nigeria is one of the crude oil producers in the world, its refineries remain shut, which made the African giant depends on the importation of refined oil from world countries for its people's needs.

The government has been putting massive amounts of money into repairing the refineries for many years, but nothing has changed.

People believe that the real reason for fuel shortage is the high level of corruption among officials.

Past year, the Federal Government had put 3.8 trillion Naira into the four petrochemical refineries about to die, but they are yet to be fixed.

Ezekiel Sabo, a physician, living in Abuda, told Iran Press reporter that the fuel shortage affected his job. He has been in a long queue to buy the fuel since early morning.

Another citizen of Nigeria, Obande Yakubu, said the fuel shortage is apathetic.

"As one of the biggest oil-producing countries, we don't have any reason why fuel should be scarce. We are a major producer of crude oil to the international markets, and here we are locally suffering, just to get fuel for our vehicles."

He also lamented about kerosene and cooking gas scarcity which became not affordable to most citizens.

Yakubu said the government intentionally refused to repair the oil refineries because they wanted to be importing refined fuel from abroad.
