Tehran (IP) - The former Assyrian Christians' Representative in Iran's Parliament said Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani saved tens of thousands of Assyrians in Iraq and Syria, becoming their hero.

Iran PressIran News: On the sidelines of the second martyrdom anniversary of General Soleimani, Yonathan Betkolia told Iran Press on Monday: "There was a town in Iraq's Erbil with 30,000 inhabitants, called Ankawa where ISIS had reached its 40 kilometers. But General Soleimani went and saved the town and Erbil. General Soleimani is a hero for the Assyrians in that region."

"In Syria, the ISIS terrorists captured 300 Assyrians out of whom 225 were liberated due to General Solemani's efforts. The ISIS terrorists also executed 75 people," Betkolia added.

He noted: "In my view, General Soleimani's actions were divine kindness."  

The conference marking the second anniversary of the Iranian top general Qassem Soleimani's martyrdom, entitled "General Soleimani; Defender of Freedom, Security and Peaceful Living of Religions," was held in Tehran on Monday, January 3, in the presence of Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, and a group of leaders of different religions.
