Iran Press/Iran News: Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote in a Twitter message in Arabic: "Ayatollah Sistani is the Great Marja, the stronghold of Iraq and a capital for the entire Islamic world."
Zarif added in his message: "Iran respects the role of Ayatollah Sistani in establishing security and stability in Iraq, defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and liberating it from the occupying powers and building a new Iraq based on the expectations of the Iraqi brotherly nation."
Saeed Khatibzadeh, the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in his weekly press conference, referring to the importance of Ayatollah Sistani’s religious authority for the people of both Iran and Iraq and the respect that the two nations and their governments have for this important pillar, said: "Ayatollah Sistani plays an irreplaceable role in Iraq and has a special position among the Shias."
