Iran's foreign ministry spokesman on X, paid tribute to the Iranian soldiers and civilians who were martyred or injured during the imposed war of 1980-1988 due to chemical weapons used by Saddam's regime.

Iran Press/Iran news: On the International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Chemical Weapons, Esmaeil Baghaei posted on X: "On Int'l Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare, we pay tribute to Iranian soldiers & civilians martyred or injured by the deposed Saddam regime's chemical attacks during the 1980-88 imposed war."

There is no statute of limitations for war crimes, and as such Iran persists in its demand for 'truth & justice' regarding those German companies and others that actively and knowingly contributed to Iraq's Chemical Weapons program.

During the eight years of Iraq's war against Iran, the Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein's regime used chemical weapons against Iran, including mustard gas. International organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, have repeatedly reiterated this fact.

On June 28, 1987, the 7th year of the Iraqi Baath regime's war on Iran, Iraqi fighter jets, in two separate chemical attacks dropped mustard gas bombs on Sardasht, West Azerbaijan, in two separate bombings and at on four residential areas. More than 119 civilians were killed and 8000 civilians were injured in the bombing according to an estimate at the time.

More than 5,000 civilians (25 percent of that year's population in Sardasht) are still suffering from severe illnesses from the attacks.
