IP - A huge fire that erupted at a police facility in the Egyptian Suez Canal city of Ismailia early Monday has been contained, 38 people injured so far.

Iran PressAfrica: Local civil defense sources said parts of the building had collapsed under the fire. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.

Dozens of people were reportedly injured. Egypt's health ministry announced that 12 of the injured were treated at the site, while 26 others were taken to hospitals, all but two suffering from breathing difficulties. Seven of the injured were treated and discharged, he said.

Deadly fires are not uncommon in Egypt amid poorly enforced fire safety standards.

In August last year, dozens of people died after a fire broke out at a church.
