FIFA, AFC agree to postpone Asian World Cup qualifiers

FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation have agreed to postpone the Asian World Cup qualifying matches to March and June, due to the corona-virus outbreak.

Iran PressAsia: FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation have agreed to postpone the Asian World Cup qualifying matches to March and June, due to the corona-virus outbreak.

The world governing body announced on Monday, that following consultation with the AFC, the 2 parties agreed to postpone the upcoming Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Press TV reported.

The matches around the continent are now scheduled to take place during the international window in 2 phases.

The first one will take place on two match-days on March 26th and 31st, and some further games are scheduled to be played during the 2nd international break on two match-days on June 4th and 9th.

FIFA added that the encounters could still go ahead, if the member associations of the 2 teams playing each other mutually agree, and safety standards are met, subject to prior approval from both FIFA and the AFC.
