Iran Press/ Europe: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelinsky had sent an official letter calling on the European Union to agree to its speedy accession to the union.
The leaders of 27 European countries, who gathered on Thursday to discuss Russia's attack on Ukraine, stressed closer ties with Kyiv but said that the country's rapid accession to the European Union at the moment was not possible, Iran Press reported citing Euro News.
"However, we reiterate that we want to work with Ukraine," said Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, adding that there was no urgent procedure for Ukraine's membership.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, said: "Can we now open the accession process for a country that is at war? I do not think so. Should we close the door and say never? This would also be unfair."

On February 24, Russia formally declared a special military operation against Ukraine, noting that its operation in Ukraine is not a start to the war, but an attempt to prevent a global war.
