Tehran (IP) - A spokesman for the Ministry of Health emphasized on Monday that all Iranian pharmaceutical firms are engaged in an effort to produce anti-coronavirus drugs or a cure or vaccine for the disease.

Iran Press/Iran news: Kianoush Jahanpour in an exclusive interview with Iran Press commented on the efforts of Iranian scientists and researchers and the Ministry of Health to produce medicines for the treatment of people diagnosed with coronavirus, noting, "This is followed in two phases. One is a medicine that has existed in the past and has been effective in preventing and treating this disease in other countries. All the factories and pharmaceutical companies are making every effort to produce the necessary medication to fight the coronavirus."

"Secondly, at the same time, several research centers in the country have embarked on a programme to develop a vaccine or medication that may somehow be effective in preventing the disease, which, however, will take time like any other scientific study," the official went on to say.

The Head of Public Relations Office at the Health Ministry added: "Also, there are some clinical trials in the world, such as the use of interferons or some antibodies that may have been under the monopoly of a specific producer in the country. Hopefully, in light of the efforts made to supply the raw materials for these drugs, I think we will announce in the coming weeks that we will provide a large part of the patients' need for this drug or even help the affected countries."
