Tehran (IP)- The surplus income generated from raising gasoline prices should be returned to the people in the form of subsidies, the Iranian parliament (Majlis) has decided in Sunday's session behind closed doors.

Iran PressIran News: The parliament speaker, Ali Larijani explained: "Today at 8 am we had a discussion on the rise of gasoline prices and subsidies with the presence of the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, who had his views on this matter."

Larijani added: "We need to provide a peaceful atmosphere for the implementation of government decisions."

"What is important is that the government should pay back the surplus income generated from increasing gasoline prices to people and the relevant committees in parliament are following this up", the speaker added.

He noted that rising petrol prices should not have an impact on the price of other commodities, and the Economic Commission in the parliament in collaboration with other bodies, is holding meetings to closely monitor price controls.

The spokesman of the parliament presiding board, Assadollah Abbasi also in answering to Iran Press question on the agenda went on to say: "According to Iran's Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei's order, the parliament implements gasoline price increase in a way that would not put pressure on the people and return the surplus income to the people themselves."
