Iran Press/ Iran news: "This summit addresses specific issues, including communicable diseases, zoonoses, and noncommunicable diseases (NCD), especially cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes. Illnesses and problems of children, infants, adolescents, and young people are also discussed," said the Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki in an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Tuesday on the sidelines of EMRO summit in Tehran.
"One of the most serious topics of discussion at this meeting is drugs and narcotics. The narcotics issue and the problems it has created by its spread and smuggling in the eastern Mediterranean region will be addressed. Eventually, the outcome of this meeting will be a statement that will be published for the first time in the name of the Tehran Declaration, with important and various issues being mentioned," he continued.
Referring to difficulties that US sanctions have created in relation to importing and supply of medicines, he noted: "We expect our counterparts in the World Health Organization to understand the pressure of the economic war which has been cruelly imposed on our country and caused difficulties in supplying certain medicines and medical equipment and reflect this issue to all nations around the world. Maybe this would help us to supply the medicine and food needed to safeguard Iranians in a timely manner."
