Iran Press/ Asia: A source in Kandahar Police Headquarters confirmed the incident, saying the blast killed at least eight people and wounded 38 others.
The source further added that the incident took place in Maiwand Market of Kandahar earlier today after a roadside bomb ripped through a civilian vehicle.
"The explosion also wounded at least six civilians including many women and children," the source said.
According to the official, women and children are also among those killed in the blast. No individual or group including the Taliban has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
In the past few days, fierce clashes continued in the Arghandab district in Kandahar province, during which, according to the governor of Kandahar, 338 Taliban members were killed and more than 200 others were wounded.
Hayatullah Hayat said on Monday that security forces had cleared the Arghandab district of the Taliban.
Taliban militants often use improvised explosive devices like roadside bombs to target the security forces but the majority of such attacks inflict casualties on ordinary civilians.
