Tehran (IP) - Iran's Health Minister said that the COVID-19 pandemic requires global solidarity in action and international cooperation in practice, adding that "this is the time for solidarity, not exclusion."

Iran PressIran News: Speaking at the World Health Organization Regional Committee for Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) ministerial meeting attended by the world’s Health Ministers on Thursday, Iran's Health Minister Saeed Namaki stressed that the COVID-19 pandemic requires global solidarity and international cooperation in practice.

Appreciating the efforts of those member states who requested the removal of US sanctions against Iran and other affected countries, Namaki also urged the international community to consider additional support to the poor countries.

Namaki also announced Iran’s readiness to provide technical assistance to low-income countries.

While submitting the report to the Health Ministers of the world and the World Health Organization, Namaki said: "In Iran, we do not have a single case of Coronavirus infected person who has not accepted in the hospitals."

He added: "It is gratifying that at the height of the sanctions, when some were waiting for Iran to collapse, hearts full of kindness, spirits full of zeal and the efforts of nurses and medical staff, kind people and prudent leadership led us to achieve this success."

"We announced that we have reduced the number of deaths of patients to one-third, bringing the number of infected cases to 40 percent, and that was a big achievement," Namaki said.

Elaborating on Iran's efforts to combat the Coronavirus, Iran's Health Minister said: "If we continue the process of recovery and reduction of the disease as quickly as possible, it will become a historical record in the world."

The Minister of Health said: "As a unique capacity, we have used the help of the Basij volunteer forces and other agencies and we have recorded this great historical experience."
