Iran Press/Asia: Pakistan Army Public Relations released a statement, saying that General Qamar Javed Bajwa was the host of Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his delegation on Wednesday at the Army Command Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The issues of mutual interest, the security situation in the region, including the Afghan peace process, the management of the Pakistan-Iran border, as well as border markets were discussed, according to the statement.
The chief of army staff of Pakistan stressed that the development of Islamabad-Tehran relations is important and has a positive impact on regional peace and stability.
The Iranian foreign minister praised Pakistan's positive role in stabilizing the region, especially the Afghan peace process, and pledged to work for better relations between the two brotherly countries, the statement noted.
Following the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister met with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and a speech at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad this evening will be the final program of Zarif's two-day visit to the Pakistani capital.
