Nigeria (IP) – Civil Service Union in Nigeria, under the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), staged a National protest on Tuesday all over the country to denounce the failure of the Federal Government to implement the agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Iran PressAfrica: In a circular sent to 36 state councils of NLC by the national secretariat and obtained by Iran Press, the national president, Comrade Ayuba Waba, told fellow workers that the national days of protest were in support of unions in Nigeria's public universities who are fighting for quality education. In line with the order of the major Civil Service Union in the County. Members of the Congress stormed the streets of Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Bauchi, Enugu, Delta, Rivers, and other parts of the country with placards emblazoned with different inscriptions.

Some of the inscriptions are: "Federal Government open, our universities," Closing the Nation's tertiary Institutions is an international embarrassment," "Nigeria at 60 years Independence, more hunger in the land". "Reduce the costs of governance now," "Save the masseuses from poverty and hunger." "Stop importation of petrol, revive the refineries."

The NLC National President, in his remark in Abuja, said, "It has been five months now that the case ( universities strike) has not been resolved. That's why on 30th of last month, a meeting was held at the Labour House of the national Head Office, and the decision was unanimously taken, considering that all these trade unions on strike who have not been paid their salaries, who have not been attended by the Federal Government are members of the trade union of Nigeria Labour Congress, based on that, we see it as important to vehemently join them and even go ahead with today's protest as a number one step to call the attention of the Federal Government to address the issues ones and for all."

He added: "The issue of the strike has affected almost everyone because our children who are university students have been at home for quite a long time. Some of them might have even joined different unscrupulous groups that may lead them to perpetrate one action or the other. Therefore, education is essential."
