Tehran (IP) - The head of Iran's parliamentary health commission says there is no specific regulation regarding medicine and the medicine has never been subject to market regulation."

Iran PressIran news: The Iranian government has approved major price hikes for four essential food items as part of a plan to liberalize prices by removing subsidies given to importers and suppliers and redirecting them to the households.

Hossein Ali Shahriari, the head of the parliamentary health commission, said in an open session of the parliament on Tuesday, in the process of reviewing the performance of public insurance coverage and supporting special and incurable patients: "The Leader of the Islamic Revolution thanked the medical staff and medical teams for their efforts during the more than two years that has passed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic."

Shahriari noted that in relation to medicine, no specific regulation has been foreseen and it has never been following market regulation.

He added: "Medicine pricing is done in a committee under the supervision of the Food and Drug Administration, but insurance organizations are not present in these meetings, which has created problems for the people."
