Hormozgan (IP) - Iran's Minister of Defence announced that the development of power in all aspects of defence, including land, air and especially sea, is one of the priorities of the country's defence programs.

Iran PressCommentary:  During his visit to Hormozgan province, Brigadier-General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, Minister of Defense and Support of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, visited the Ministry of Defense's naval projects in Bandar Abbas, especially the construction of destroyers, surface and submarine vessels, and announced that the development of power in all defense dimensions including land and air, especially the sea, are among the priorities of the country's defense programs.

Saying that Iran's geopolitical position, especially in the waters of the Persian Gulf, is of strategic importance, Brigadier-General Ashtiani added: "The Ministry of Defense will update and equip the navy of the Armed Forces in accordance with the needs of the armed forces and regional threats in all its territorial waters."

The navy is considered all over the world as a pivotal arm for the protection of interests in territorial and extraterrestrial waters, and therefore is always an equipment-oriented force that needs modern equipment.

The importance of the Navy for the national security and power of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a country with long coastlines on its northern and southern borders and on the other hand is located in the geostrategic area of the Persian Gulf is undeniable.

Given this and the fact that Iran has been subject to arms embargoes for decades, it is important to pay attention to the domestic capabilities to provide vessels and naval equipment for the strategic navy of the Islamic Republic Army and the IRGC navy.

The Navy of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Navy of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), as two important branches of the Armed Forces that have special missions, need indiginous equipment and weapons to carry out missions and ensure the security of Iranian waters and extraterritorial missions.

Cmdr. Irani: Navy confronts sanctions and threats

In recent years, due to the importance of naval power and naval weapons and the importance of effective presence in territorial waters and high seas, the Islamic Republic of Iran has made extensive investments in the field of naval weapons, so that today a variety of naval equipment, subsurface, sea air, and offensive and defensive systems are at the disposal of the navy of the IRGC and the Army.

This indigenous equipment, including light and heavy ships, submarines, offensive speedboats, various types of anti-ship missiles, torpedoes, and other equipment such as drones, flying boats, and hovercrafts, not only significantly increase the offensive capability and has become a defense of Iran's navy, but it also sends a strong message to regional and trans-regional countries about Iran's full readiness to repel any threat and aggression on its waters, as well as its significant capability for possible offensive measures to repel threats.

However, as Tehran has repeatedly stated, Iran seeks peace and tranquility in its waters, especially in the Persian Gulf, and therefore the naval presence of trans-regional countries, especially the United States, is considered a factor of instability and insecurity in this geo-strategic region.

In this regard, Brigadier-General Ashtiani said: "Iran's message to the region and the world is a message of peace and tranquility, and on the other hand we believe that peace and stability in the region can be achieved with the presence and participation of all countries in the region. The Islamic Republic of Iran has not and will not hesitate in defending the interests of the Iranian people and repelling threats."
