Tehran(IP)- In a joint meeting with his Turkmen counterpart, the Iranian President said that Iran's relations with Turkmenistan are not merely neighborly but fraternal, civilization-oriented, cultural, and very deep.

Iran PressIran News: The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymukhamedov arrived in Tehran yesterday evening (Tuesday) with a political-economic delegation, welcomed by Minister of Roads and Urban Development Rostam Ghasemi.

Bilateral meetings, the signing of intergovernmental documents, and a press conference are among Berdymukhamedov's two-day visit to Tehran.

This is Berdymukhamedov's first visit to Tehran as President of Turkmenistan, and he had previously arrived in Iran on January 9, 2022, as a special envoy of the then President.

The official welcoming ceremony of the President of Turkmenistan was held in the cultural and historical complex of Sa'adabad with the presence of the Iranian President.

Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi said in a joint meeting with his Turkmen counterpart  Serdar Berdymukhamedov on Wednesday: "I consider it necessary to thank the President of Turkmenistan and the high-ranking delegation for their presence in the Islamic Republic of Iran for accepting the invitation to our country."

He added: "Without a doubt, the presence of the President and the high-ranking delegation of Turkmenistan can be a turning point for relations between the two countries. We had good relations with Turkmenistan during these three decades. And my visit to Ashgabat over the past few months has strengthened some of the cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan especially in the field of gas swaps and transportation transit, good steps have been taken."

The President pointed to the capacity of cooperation between the two countries for more than three decades and said: "There should be a lot of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade, water and energy, and agreements and memoranda should be signed between the two countries to promote ties."

Turkmen President invites Pres. Raisi to attend Caspian Sea summit

The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, also said in the press conference: "The context and prospects of relations between the two countries were discussed in a joint meeting with their Iranian counterpart, and we want to improve relations between the two countries."

 

The President of Turkmenistan added that talks were held on the Caspian Basin, which is of special importance.

He added: "In the negotiations, we also discussed the Caspian Sea, and with great respect, I invited Mr. Raisi to the Caspian Summit to be held in Turkmenistan this year."

The President of Turkmenistan also said: "Afghanistan's issues were also discussed at today's meeting and we want an inclusive government to be formed in the country ."

Berdymukhamedov went on to say: "We discussed various issues, in which the development and expansion of trade and economic cooperation and the volume of exchanges were important ."

He added: "We also discussed cooperation in the field of energy, transportation between Tehran and Ashgabat and agreed to present our efforts in the field. The emphasis of the two countries on expanding relations in the cultural and human fields in order to unite nations is another issue."
