Khuzestan (IP) – Director-general of fisheries of Iran's Khuzestan Province announced that the Shalamcheh border crossing reopened and exporting farmed fish to Iraq resumed.

Iran PressIran News: Fatollah Abu-Ali stated that Shalamcheh international border crossing is one of the central business routes for exporting fish to Iraq.

"Considering the border's short distance to Iraq's Basra market place and because of the high capacity of fish production in Khuzestan Province, we can witness the uptrend in fish exports, as well as increase in quality and stability in market price," he noted.

The director-general of Khuzestan's fisheries pointed out that Khuzestan farmed fish exports through Shalamcheh and Chazzabeh borders were halted for more than two years due to the COVID outbreak; the farmed fish was exported to Iraq through Parvizkhan and Khosravi borders in Kermanshah Province and through also through the commercial border of Bashmaq in Kordestan Province.

"Based on consultations held, farmed fish exports from Khuzestan to Iraq through Shalamcheh border is resumed and the fisheries industry continues to develop," he said.

Head of Transit and Transportation Department of the Shalamcheh Border Crossing in the Arvand Free Zone, Hadi Edrispour, also announced that in the last Iranian year, 568,450,667 dollars of non-oil goods weighing 2,263,710 tons had been exported to Iraq through Shalamcheh international border.

The Shalamcheh international border is located 15 Km from west of Iran's Khorramshahr and 20 Km from Iraq's Basra.
