Facebook banned the Al-Alam News Network's page on Sunday without prior notice.

Iran PressAmerica: Over the past years, Facebook — along with YouTube, Twitter, and Google, have repeatedly targeted media outlets of Iran and the countries critical of the West and the Israeli regime's occupation of Palestine.

The page was launched in 2010 and soon reached millions of followers around the world; but despite repeated requests from Al-Alam, Facebook refused to register the Al-Alam page on the pretext that it did not meet the publication conditions regarding the axis of resistance from Hezbollah and the picture of its flag and leaders, as well as the Palestinian resistance and the Yemeni National Salvation Government.

This is while several other media outlets that have nothing to do with the axis of resistance freely publish even photos of terrorist groups and al-Qaeda leaders.

Facebook has imposed severe restrictions on the publication of Al-Alam news on its page; also, in January 2020, after the assassination of Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani by the United States, Al-Alam's page was suspended for several weeks.

Despite repeated requests from Al-Alam to Facebook to reopen the banned pages, Facebook imposed more restrictions on Al-Alam's page and stopped publishing its news for limited periods until it finally banned Al-Alam's page without prior notice yesterday. This move is a clear violation of press freedom of speech under various pretexts.

Facebook's action coincides with the nineteenth anniversary of Al-Alam News Network's foundation. Al-Alam's Facebook page has about 6 million followers worldwide.
