Tehran (IP) - The Archbishop of the Armenian Diocese of Tehran says Iran's Top General Soleimani did the best of his ability to protect the Christian community.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking to Iran Press on the sidelines of the conference marking the second martyrdom anniversary of Iran's Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, Sepuh Sargsyan said on Monday: "General Soleimani always tried his best to protect and keep the Christian community safe." 

"Now that he has been martyred, we mourn his martyrdom," Bishop Sargsyan told Iran Press.

The conference marking the second anniversary of the Iranian top general Qassem Soleimani's martyrdom, entitled "General Soleimani; Defender of Freedom, Security and Peaceful Living of Religions," was held in Tehran on Monday, January 3, in the presence of Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, and a group of leaders of different religions.

Leaders of different religions emphasized the role of Martyr Lt. Gen. Soleimani in providing security in the region and trying to defend their rights.

General Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) deputy head Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were assassinated along with their companions in a US drone strike authorized by former President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

They were highly popular because of their crucial role in eliminating the US-backed ISIS terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

General Soleimani was assassinated by the US while he was in Baghdad at the official invitation of the Iraqi government.206
