Tehran (IP) - Iran's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) agreed to continue talks in Brussels after talks wrapped up in the Iranian capital.

Iran PressIran news: Political Deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Ali Bagheri Kani, and Joseph Borell's deputy, Enrique Mora held a meeting on Thursday evening.

Bagheri Kani in the meeting criticized the EU for evading responsibility to what was going on in the region including the lifting of sanctions on Iran and said: "Whichever side shows more responsibility is closer to the negotiating table."

"Iran is always ready for serious negotiations the result of which is practical not just on the paper," he noted.

Bilateral relations, regional issues, including developments in Afghanistan and Yemen, as well as negotiations to lift sanctions on Iran were the topics to be discussed in the meeting.

Iran's senior diplomat told the European side that there was serious doubt that the US had the will to fulfill its commitments to the internationally signed Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Enrique Mora, Deputy Director of the EU Action Service, who traveled to Tehran to discuss bilateral relations, regional issues, as well as talks on lifting sanctions on Iran, in meeting with Ali Bagheri, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister announced his readiness to cooperate with Iran and other parties in order to continue negotiations to achieve a result acceptable to all parties.

Enrique Mora explained his task as the EU Coordinator, stressed the readiness of the European party to cooperate with Iran and other parties of the JCPOA to reach conclusions acceptable by all the parties.

In the end, the two sides agreed that the consultations between them on issues of mutual interest would continue in the coming days in Brussels.

Enrique Mora's visit to Tehran comes at a time when the United States and European members of the agreement have not taken any concrete action, despite the Islamic Republic of Iran's emphasis on the importance of objective and verifiable steps to ensure Iran's interests in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

However, diplomats from Britain, Germany, and France wrote in a memo on Wednesday, referring to the Chief of Staff of Josep Borrell's visit to Tehran: "The meeting comes at a time when Vienna talks for removal of sanctions on a full return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action have been suspended for almost four months by Iran."

Earlier, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told NBC in an interview that Iran remained ready to return to sanction-lifting talks "very soon", but the Biden administration sent a "negative sign" by failing to lift economic sanctions and imposing new ones on Tehran.

Under a 2015 deal called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran curbed its uranium enrichment program in return for lifting economic sanctions, but former US President Donald Trump quit the agreement in 2018, and know the Israeli government is the main opposition to US efforts to revive the deal.
