AEOI head:

Vienna (IP) - "Now, it is the time for the US to rectify the wrong policies and initially remove all sanctions in a practical, effective, and verifiable manner," Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said in his speech at the 65th General Conference International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.

Iran PressEurope: Mohammad Eslami criticized the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), said that the US exit violated UN Resolution 2231.

He added that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was concluded to remove the impediments of Iran’s progress, is a clear example of Iran’s goodwill which the United States not only violated with complete disregard but also, through its unilateral policies, violated provisions of the JCPOA and UNSC resolution 2231 and withdrew from the Deal.

The so-called maximum pressure policy was doomed to fail, and the US administration should abandon its addiction to unilateral sanctions and respect international law. As a result of the unilateral policies, the US violated the text and spirit of the JCPOA and UNSC resolution 2231 and withdrew from the Deal.

The AEOI head also noted that the Iranian parliament approved a piece of legislation on Dec. 2, 2020, in the wake of the lack of action of the three European countries that are parties to the JCPOA in the face of the US continued sanctions against Iran.

Eslami said that the Parliament legislation obliged the AEOI to cease the implementation of IAEA monitoring beyond the comprehensive safeguards agreement.

The AEOI head also said that as president Ebrahim Raisi has vowed, Iran wants result-orientated negotiations in a bid to lift the oppressive pressures.

He also urged the IAEA to remain independent and impartial and not to make politically motivated decisions.

The 65th General Conference of the IAEA is underway with the participation of representatives of 171 countries. From Iran, the head of the Iranian nuclear agency organization (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami, and the envoy to the IAEA Kazem Gharibabadi are attending the event.
