Two Iranian COVID vaccines to get FDA certification

Cairo (IP) – WHO representative to Iran during the press conference, said that “the two indigenous vaccines, Barekat and PastuCovac, are yet to be submitted to WHO for certification to WHO EUL (Emergency Use Listing Procedure), but the Iranian FDA has certified them and that’s why they are being used inside the country for vaccination.”

Iran PressAfrica: A virtual press conference was held on the latest COVID-19 status in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, focusing on the situation in Iran with the presence of WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Ahmed Al-Mandhari and, WHO Representative to Iran Jaffar Hussain Seyed, at Cairo press conference hall on Wednesday evening.

Responding to Iran Press' question on the various kinds of injected vaccines in Iran, Jaffar Hussain Seyed stated that the imported vaccines in Iran, including Sinopharm and AstraZeneca, have got their certificate for emergency use, and two indigenous ones have passed their clinical trials and got the emergency use permission from Iran's Health Ministry.

Referring to the COVID situation in Iran, the WHO representative said the death toll has decreased in some areas in Iran due to the acceleration in the vaccination.

Ahmed Al-Mandhari also stressed that everyone must have access to vaccination equally, including citizens and immigrants.

He also called all international communities to pave the way for all countries to vaccinate their people.

"Although coronavirus has caused challenges for all communities, COVAX has done its best for vaccine distribution," he concluded.
