US experienced hottest June on record after 127 years

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration noted the US has already had eight natural disasters that topped more than $1 billion each in damage this year.

Iran PressAmerica: In 127 years of record-keeping, the United States was never this hot in June.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, blistering and record-setting heatwaves on both the West Coast and the East Coast made last month the hottest June in U.S. history.

Meanwhile, a record-breaking heatwave killed nearly 200 people in Oregon and Washington after the 'heat dome' sent temperatures above 115 F.

The update comes as Washington State reels from the loss of life as it saw more than twice as many people suffer from heat-related deaths this past week than in the last five years combined.

As the Earth continues to warm, heatwaves like what the U.S. experienced in June are becoming more frequent and more intense.

Eight states saw their hottest June on record, including Arizona, California, Idaho, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Utah.

California had a statewide average of 6.8 degrees above average. Six other states registered their second-hottest June.

Moreover, the exceptional heat has also helped to fuel the expansive drought across the entire Western region.

Nearly 95 percent of the West is currently facing drought, up from 40 percent this same time last year.
