Tehran (IP) - Referring to the arrest of an Iranian university professor in the United States, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that It appears that Washington has resorted to open hostage-taking against Iranian citizens.

Iran PressIran News: In an interview on Wednesday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said in response to a question regarding the allegations made by US officials against an Iranian citizen named Kaveh Afrasiabi on charges of ''secretly worked for the Iranian government," saying: "Unfortunately, the Americans are addicted to this kind of action and are taking hostages under any pretext. We hope the new US administration will distance itself from the Trump administration's hostage-taking approach."

"Afrasiabi is a well-known university professor who has been arrested on a false accusation," the spokesman noted.

He further expressed hope that the Iranian citizen's problem would be resolved as soon as possible.

Kaveh Lotfolah Afrasiabi, 63, was arrested by FBI agents at his home in Watertown, Massachusetts, on Monday, officials said.
