Iran Press/Iran News: Attending his weekly press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh responded to the Iran Press' question regarding the Pentagon’s claim on the US aircraft carrier remaining in the Persian Gulf due to Iran’s threats.
Khatibzadeh stressed that messages had been sent to Washington and the Persian Gulf countries should not be trapped by the United States.
As Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s tweet reads, the Israeli Regime's footprint is evident in Iraq to achieve its goals, he pointed.
"As we have stated before, Iran does not seek any tension, but we defend our land," he asserted.
Referring to US military bases in Iraq, Khatibzadeh added that the US abuses countries around Iran to take action against the Islamic Republic, while Iran never engages with the US' neighboring countries.
Khatibzadeh also said: "These days are the anniversary of Lt General Qasem Soleimani. We had a good commemoration ceremony for this great commander with the participation of all the resistance figures in Iran and in the region, such as Lebanon, Iraq, and other countries."
"Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif talked on the phone with his Kuwaiti counterpart about bilateral and regional issues, the latest developments in the region as well as the tensions. He also had a telephone conversation with his Armenian counterpart. They talked about the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the developments in Armenia, and the ceasefire situation. FM Zarif also had a telephone conversation with his Qatari counterpart," he added.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman stated: "On Dec 30, Abbas Araghchi traveled to Qatar to meet with the Qatari foreign minister."
Iraq must pursue the case of Gen. Soleimani assassination
Khatibzadeh also said that Iraq must pursue General Qassem Soleimani's assassination case.
He noted: "The Iraqi people and officials showed how much they appreciate the efforts of Lt General Soleimani. When ISIS reached behind their cities and European countries were thinking, Iran and Lt General Soleimani were present there and defeated ISIS."
