The fifth round of the International Conference on “Dialogue of Civilisations: China and Iran” was held at Kunming University in China, featuring a message from Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, Iran’s Ambassador to China.

Why it matters:

The conference brought together 12 Iranian scholars and 21 Chinese professors from leading universities. It also focused on strengthening cultural and academic ties between the two ancient Asian civilisations.

The big picture:

Scholars presented papers on cultural exchanges, academic collaboration, and practical strategies to institutionalize cooperation. The joint discussions were also seen as a step toward strengthening historical ties and shaping the contemporary global cultural order.

Iran highlighted its historical role in the Silk Road and its readiness to contribute to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

What he’s saying:

Ambassador Rahmani Fazli said, “Iran, as it did over 2,000 years ago on the Silk Road, is prepared to seize new opportunities in the Belt and Road Initiative.”

He called on universities, scholars, cultural institutions, and especially the youth of both nations to design innovative frameworks for civilizational dialogue.

“China and Iran share notable points of connection that must be translated into real, practical cooperation, not just words or slogans”, he added.
