Tehran (IP) - Iran's President about tensions on the poem of Araz recited by the Turkish President in Baku said: "As far as I know Mr. Erdoğan, it seems highly unlikely that he intended to insult the Iranian people and our territorial integrity."

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking on Monday about the future of Iran-Turkey relations after the Nagorno-Karabakh war and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's remarks at a ceremony in Baku, Hassan Rouhani said: "Iran-Turkey relations are very important. Iran and Turkey are two neighboring countries that have strong political and economic ties. They both talk about regional issues and the Astana process."

"Of course, Iran's territorial integrity is also important. The Iranian people have the right to be sensitive about their territorial integrity, but what was important to me was that the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu called the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and said that Erdoğan did not intend to insult Iran's integrity," Rouhani highlighted.

"The spokesman for the Turkish president and the Turkish ambassador confirmed the Turkish FM's remarks," he added.

"Erdoğan recited a poem at a ceremony in Baku. Several meanings can be deduced from it," he said. "But when Erdoğan himself stressed in his speech that we should work together on regional issues, we should consider the whole speech, not a part of it," the president noted.

"As far as I know Mr. Erdoğan, it seems highly unlikely that he intended to insult the Iranian people and our territorial integrity."

The president stated: "Of course, those who protested were right and they showed their sensitivity. Still, he intended to say that the Republic of Azerbaijan's people are happy with the liberation of their land. The poem he recited has different meanings in different places."
