Why it matters:
Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi’s remarks during Yemen’s commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday linked spiritual celebration with condemnation of Israeli genocide in Gaza.
The big picture:
In a nationally broadcast address, al-Houthi praised Yemen’s observance of the Prophet’s birthday as “unparalleled on earth,” citing the Prophet’s saying: “Faith is Yemeni and wisdom is Yemeni.” He described the annual event as a reaffirmation of Yemen’s Islamic identity and resistance to efforts to distance Muslims from the Prophet’s teachings.
What he’s saying:
“Our people commemorate the Prophet’s birthday every year in gratitude for divine blessings and in celebration of God’s mercy,” al-Houthi said.
He emphasized that the occasion strengthens Yemenis’ faith, resolve, and independence, invoking the legacy of the Ansar—early supporters of Islam—as a source of pride and continuity.
“The descendants of the Ansar now raise the banner high, supporting oppressed Muslims and confronting tyrants and their hypocritical allies,” he added.
On Gaza: Al-Houthi tied the religious occasion to current events, condemning what he called “Israeli aggression against Gaza, backed by the United States.”
He described the situation as “the crime of the century,” citing the denial of infant formula and daily violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the West Bank.
“It is deeply regrettable that such atrocities are committed against Muslims in the heart of the Muslim world, while some watch passively,” he said.
Some fail to recognize the dangers of inaction, while others actively collude with the Israeli enemy. The oppression of the Palestinian people has exposed the alarming depth of human, moral, and religious decline within the Islamic nation, as well as the far-reaching influence of the satanic soft war.
The Jewish establishment has targeted the two-billion-strong Muslim nation through psychological warfare, reducing it to a state of humiliation in exchange for the interests of a handful of Zionist actors.
The Israeli enemy’s scheme does not end with Palestine. Its most notorious figures openly declare plans to reshape the region under banners such as “Greater Israel” and “New Middle East.”
The grave danger facing our nation is its continued entrapment in this destructive state—one that contradicts its core principles and threatens its very survival.
The path to salvation for the Islamic nation lies not in passivity or neglecting the duty of jihad, but in confronting the threat posed by Zionist forces and resisting their corruption and criminality.
Turning away from the Holy Qur’an and abandoning the example and guidance of the Messenger—peace and blessings be upon him and his family—is what has led to this decline.
All the options and alternatives the nation has embraced—upon which it has built its positions, outlook, and vision—have proven ineffective.
Why has the nation not returned to the guidance of the Qur’an and the Messenger?
