A high-level seminar in Islamabad spotlighted the evolving Iran-Israel conflict, exploring military escalation, strategic responses, and the prospects for diplomacy amid growing regional tensions caused by the Israeli-U.S. warmongering.

Why it matters:

As tensions between Iran and Israel intensify following recent military strikes, regional analysts, diplomats, and scholars are examining the broader implications for nuclear diplomacy, West Adia stability, and the shifting power dynamics between Israel, Iran, and their allies. The discussion highlights fears that diplomacy may be sidelined permanently in favor of military deterrence.

The big picture:

At the seminar titled “Iran-Israel Conflict: Military Confrontation Amidst Diplomatic Efforts”, held by the Institute of Regional Studies in Islamabad, panelists emphasized the strategic consequences of Israel’s decapitating strike and Iran’s rapid and robust missile retaliation.

What they're saying:

General (R) Naeem Khalid Lodhi told Iran Press: “The whole world was not expecting the reaction that Iranians gave, especially after that very lethal decapitating strike against the leadership and scientists of Iran. It was good to see, for those who are friends of Iran, how they reacted so promptly within a few hours.”

Dr. Vida Yaghouti (Tehran) criticized the India-Israel axis a full-spectrum alliance driven by Hindu nationalism and Zionism, while underscoring the Iran–Pakistan partnership in border stability and anti-militancy efforts.

Gen. (R) Lodhi said the Israeli attack may have been a trap disguised as diplomacy, but Iran’s self-defensive strikes overwhelmed Israeli defenses, shifting perceptions of deterrence and signaling depth in Iranian tactics.

Go deeper:

The seminar underscored that Iran’s quick and forceful response surprised even seasoned analysts. Many participants viewed the confrontation as a turning point: not only in Iran’s military doctrine but also in shifting global perceptions of Israeli vulnerability. As Iranian missiles reportedly hit high-value targets deep inside Israeli territory, analysts questioned whether the diplomatic window especially regarding Iran-U.S. nuclear talks has permanently closed.
