During his weekly press briefing, Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized that Iran’s reaction to the Zionist regime’s aggression constitutes a lawful defense based on international law and guided by rational and humane principles.
Complicity in Israel’s Crimes Condemned
He further stated, “All those who support or justify the Zionist regime’s aggression are complicit in its crimes. The Zionist regime’s attack on Iran did not occur in a vacuum but is a continuation of eight decades of atrocities that have destabilized our region.”
U.S. Accused of Undermining Nuclear Talks
Baghaei criticized the U.S. for its role in Israel’s aggression against Iran, which disrupted ongoing diplomatic efforts. “We were engaged in a diplomatic process when we faced the Zionist regime’s aggression—an act unimaginable without U.S. cooperation. This has rendered the diplomatic and negotiation process meaningless,” he stated.
Call for Clear U.S. Stance on Israeli Aggression
Baghaei emphasized the need for the U.S. to take a definitive position, saying, “The U.S. must adopt a clear stance. Contradictory positions do nothing to dispel this grave suspicion. We have no doubt that the U.S. was part of this aggression.”
Trump’s Remarks Dismissed as “Meaningless”
Commenting on remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, Baghaei added, “Raising the prospect of negotiations under these circumstances is meaningless. As a permanent member of the UNSC, the U.S. must condemn this aggression. It cannot ignore these realities due to its ties (with Israel). The U.S. must take a stand, denounce the aggression, and act decisively.”
Urgent Call for UN Security Council Action
Baghaei stressed Iran’s commitment to defending its territory, while urging UN member states to uphold the UN Charter and global security frameworks. “If nations believe in the UN Charter and security systems, they must act. The Security Council must intervene. Ambiguous statements are attempts to justify aggression, and calls for Iran’s restraint are nothing but hypocrisy and irresponsibility,” he asserted.
Israel’s Attacks Violate International Law
The spokesperson further highlighted Israel’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities and residential areas, describing them as “in direct violation of international norms and laws.” He added, “The assassination of prominent figures during peacetime and the killing of innocent civilians are unacceptable and contrary to international law.”
Israel Accused of Genocide in Palestine
Baghaei condemned the Zionist regime’s actions, stating, “The Zionist regime is carrying out genocide in Palestine, a fact that must not be overlooked. Its impunity, bolstered by U.S. support, has placed regional peace and security under serious threat.”
