Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi

Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi, stated the Security Council is facing a crisis of legitimacy and credibility due to poor performance, passivity, and in some cases, illegal and extra-legal actions.

Iran PressAmerica: In his speech at the UNGA, Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi criticized the Security Council's structure, adding that the body is undemocratic due to not being active enough of the developing countries in it.

Takht-e-Ravanchi noted that the Security Council has so far been largely dominated by Western countries, abused by some permanent members, and has not been held accountable for its actions.

Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations also noted the Security Council's rapid use of its powers under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, such as imposing sanctions, adding that the Security Council should use the force as a last option.
