Iran Press/ America: Speaking during a Security Council session on the situation in Syria, Iravani emphasized the need for the international community to enforce a ceasefire and hold Israel accountable for its “heinous crimes.”
Iravani urged the UNSC to fulfill its duty in addressing Israel’s violations, stating, “The council must compel the Israeli regime to halt its aggression against Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, ensuring compliance with international law and relevant resolutions.”
Condemnation of Israeli Aggressions
In his address, Iravani condemned Israel’s military strikes in Syria, calling them a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “We strongly condemn these brutal attacks, which constitute a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter,” he said, referring to ongoing airstrikes by Israel targeting Syrian infrastructure.
The Iranian diplomat also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Syria, worsened by a drastic reduction in international aid contributions and the influx of refugees from Lebanon. Iravani called on the international community to increase its support for Syria, particularly in the reconstruction of critical infrastructure damaged by years of conflict and Israeli strikes.
Iravani outlined Israel’s increased military actions since October 2023, revealing that over 116 attacks had been launched on Syrian territory. He reported that these strikes had killed over 100 civilians, including 12 children, and destroyed essential infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and airports. He said Israel has been targeting refugee convoys and humanitarian workers, further aggravating the crisis.
“Even refugees fleeing violence are not spared,” Iravani said, referring to Israeli strikes on border crossings between Syria and Lebanon. These actions, he asserted, intensified the humanitarian emergency in the region, making safe passage for civilians nearly impossible.
Iravani condemned Israel’s destruction of an Iranian Red Crescent Society aid facility on October 9, which had been established to provide life-saving assistance to displaced Lebanese civilians. He labeled the attack a reckless and intolerable violation of humanitarian law, calling for accountability under the Geneva Conventions.
Iravani also detailed the recent assassination of Dr. Ali Heidari, an Iranian doctor providing critical medical assistance in Lebanon, martyred in an Israeli strike in Beirut. “This heinous crime, alongside the deliberate targeting of medical personnel, constitutes a war crime,” he stressed.
The diplomat cited other recent violations, including the October 19 missile attack on an Iranian-Lebanese couple in Jounieh, Lebanon. He called the Israeli drone strike that killed the couple an "atrocity crime," underscoring its deliberate nature.
Call for Immediate Action
Iravani concluded by calling for immediate international intervention, reiterating the united global call for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon. “Since the start of Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, its attacks have reduced hospitals to rubble, killed hundreds of healthcare workers, and devastated civilian infrastructure,” he said. “The international community must no longer stand idle. The time for action is now.”
He urged the UNSC to take decisive steps to end Israeli aggression in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, and ensure full compliance with international humanitarian law.
