Iran Press/America: This is the first medicine to be approved for the treatment of COVID-19, CNN reported.
Gilead Sciences in a statement said: "In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Veklury on October 22, 2020, for the treatment of adults and pediatric patients 12 years old and weighing 40 kg requiring hospitalization for COVID-19."
A few months ago, the results of a study funded by the World Health Organization (WHO) showed that Remdesivir does not help patients survive or even recover faster, however, the results of a study in the United States showed that the drug shortens the recovery time for some patients.
The Trump administration has previously pressured France's Sanofi and Germany's CureVac to prioritize the US over potential vaccine customers.
Donald Trump has once again touted a vaccine he said would be ready "in weeks". He offered personal testimony to the power of the new drugs to treat the disease and boasted that he was now "immune".
Biden, the US president's rival in the upcoming presidential election said that Trump had repeatedly promised the disease would disappear on its own pointing out that there were 220,000 Americans dead and there could be another 200,000 by the end of the year.
Iran is producing Remdesivir and will export it soon to other countries.
The novel coronavirus is one of seven viruses that have symptoms similar to the common cold, and cause acute respiratory illnesses that in some cases lead to death.
