JCPOA, product of Iran openness to engagement: Foreign Ministry

Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry stated that the Iran Nuclear Deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is the product of Iran's openness to engagement, adding the irresponsible withdrawal of the US from this agreement has seriously damaged this multilateral achievement.

Iran PressIran News: On the anniversary of the signing of JCPOA, Iran's Foreign Ministry wrote in a number of tweets on Monday: "JCPOA is the product of Iran's openness to engagement, but US reckless exit from the deal has wreaked havoc on this multilateral accomplishment."

"In Iran, today is the national day for 'Dialogue and Constructive Engagement with the World'. Since its foundation, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been developing a cordial, balanced relationship with the world and settling challenges through dialogues based on mutual respect," it added.

"The track record of dialogues on critical issues demonstrates Iran's seriousness, pragmatism on bringing peace and stability to the world," Foreign Ministry stated in another tweet.

"Despite the setback, the Islamic Republic remains committed to diplomatic engagement, as it's been and will be a trusted partner to its neighbors and beyond. The Islamic Republic has long proposed several inclusive peace plans in West Asia; the latest one is the initiative of Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE). Always believe in dialogue," Foreign Ministry added.

Following the US' withdrawal from the JCPOA and the failure of the three European signatories to the agreement (Germany, Britain, and France) to honor their commitments, in early July, the EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said he had received a letter from Iran that demanded to trigger the JCPOA's dispute resolution mechanism.

Borrell added that the letter written by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined Iran's concerns regarding implementation issues on the part of France, Germany, and Britain to the Joint Commission of the deal for resolution through the dispute process set out in the agreement's Paragraph 36.
