Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht-Ravanchi

New York (IP) - Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations stated that the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s remarks are rejected and have no place in international law.

Iran PressIran News: Referring to the US action on extending Iran's arms embargo, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht-Ravanchi said that it is natural that countries don't accept such measures which are against international law.

Stating that the Americans' move is a false assumption and more like a joke, he said: "The fact that the United States wants to say that it is a member of JCPOA and use the Resolution 2231 is similar to a joke."

"The Americans have nothing to say, and they do not have any legal arguments, therefore their request is certainly rejected by the United Nations and the Security Council," said Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations in New York.

"What the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and some other officials said has been rejected and has no place in international law," Takht-Ravanchi added.

The United Nations Security Council arms embargo on Iran in 2006 and 2007 is supposed to be lifted on 18 October 2020, five years after the JCPOA  Adoption Day.

Meanwhile, the US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook has said that Washington is hopeful that the United Nations Security Council will extend an arms embargo on Iran before it expires in October, expressing that the US will exercise all diplomatic options to accomplish that.
