Tehran (IP) - Iran's Parliament Speaker said that there is a strategic relationship between Iran and Russia.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani made the remark on Monday at the Second High Commission for Parliamentary Cooperation between the Iranian Parliament and the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin, saying: "There is no doubt that Iran and Russia are two important countries in the region. There is a strategic relationship between the two countries. The two countries have both common interests and common problems, one of which is the issue of sanctions."

He further noted: "On international issues, we have had very close consultations and good cooperation. These consultations still continue. On regional issues, we have taken some very good steps, especially in the fight against terrorism. These activities still continue today."

Referring to the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in different fields, Larijani noted: "The two countries have had security and military cooperation. An example of that was a joint naval exercise between Iran, Russia, and China. There is also parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. Economic cooperation also continues between Iran and Russia and we hope that your presence (referring to Chairman of the Russian State Duma) will accelerate that."

Speaker of the Iranian Parliament also said that Americans are taking the region towards an international dictatorship and have humiliating behavior, which is very important for Iran-Russia to cooperate.

Larijani described the Joint Commission as a place for the development of economic cooperation between the two countries and noted: "We hope that holding this commission at such a level as reflects the willingness of the two sides to develop relations and it can help further strengthening the relations between the two countries."

Speaking at the commission, Vyacheslav Viktorovich Volodin, also emphasized the need for inter-parliamentary cooperation, adding that these interactions should help deepen the relations between the two countries.

He pointed out the possibilities and capacities of the Joint Parliamentary Commission of the two countries and stated that the two parliaments can make decisions that will lead to the development of relations between the two countries.

Second High Commission for Parliamentary Cooperation of Iran-Russia was held on Monday in Tehran.

The first meeting of the parliamentary cooperation committee was held in Russia’s southwestern city of Volgograd in September 2018.

Initiated by the heads of the Iranian and Russian parliaments, the committee has been formed to promote parliamentary relations between Tehran and Moscow.
