Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, in a meeting with the visiting Qatari Foreign Minister, said that the US will pay a heavy price for the assassination of the commander of Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iran Press/Iran News: Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani who arrived in Tehran on Saturday, met with President Rouhani later on the day.

President stressed in this meeting that Iran considers America’s recent terrorist act as its new move in supporting terrorism, adding, "The martyrdom of Lieutenant General Haj Qasem Soleimani has made our people stronger and more determined than ever.”

“American will bear the full responsibility of the consequences of this terrorist act in the region and it will pay a heavy price for it,” said President Hassan Rouhani.

He added, "Unfortunately, the Americans have entered a new path that can be very dangerous for the region, therefore, in such a condition, close negotiation and cooperation between friendly countries is essential.”

Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani assassinated in an airstrike on the Baghdad International Airport in Iraq on early Friday, at the order of US President Donald Trump.

Stating that the Islamic Republic of Iran has never started a tension in the region that led to insecurity, Rouhani added, "What has caused tension and unease in the region in recent years is the United States’ foolish acts.”

He went on to say that General Soleimani was a global figure in the fight against terrorism and everyone knows what effective role he has played in regional security, especially in Iraq and Syria.

“I hope that the Iraqi people’s holding of a glorious funeral, the one that is going to be held in Iran, makes America understand what grave mistake it has made,” said Rouhani.

The President continued, "In the current situation, we expect all our friendly and neighboring countries to condemn this US’ criminal act because America has martyred a top Iranian armed forces commander in another country in the most criminal form.”

Rouhani further emphasized the importance of developing relations between Tehran and Doha, and said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always considered close ties and consultations with Qatar to be beneficial for the development of bilateral and regional relations."

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, also emphasized deepening the Tehran-Doha relations, saying, "Qatar is keen to develop relations with Iran, and considers the Islamic Republic of Iran a neighborly and brotherly country.”
